Carol creates a range of subjects—landscapes, figures, portraits and still life. Whatever the subject, all are imbued with her strong sense of design; luscious brushwork; love for 19th century masters like Degas, Manet, and Lautrec; and her direct and sensitive connection to the natural world. Whether at the Jersey Shore or in the hills of Tuscany, her landscapes are painted en plein air and capture the essence of her surroundings; her figures exude the energy that can only result when painted from life in a single sitting; and her still life subjects are anything but still. While her primary medium is oil on canvas, just as her curiosity about the world spurs her to seek out new subjects, Carol is equally curious about materials and media. She has explored oil stick, pastels, alcohol inks, and encaustic, alone and in mixed media pieces.
